In the past couple of years, I have attended many business workshops and seminars. They all start off the same way, asking the same question:” What is your big WHY?” “What is the reason for what you’re doing?” “What is driving you?”
I would sit there and think I don’t really have a “drive.” Because I am doing it for me!
Of course, I wouldn’t say it out loud. Doing so would make me sound selfish.
I attended another this week and thought it was time to be truthful to myself.
I work as hard as I do so badly and it’s all for me. That’s right. Just me.
Being an introvert – often shy, quiet and reserved – people never expect me to get into trouble or cause much of a commotion in life. At aged 20, I packed up my life and moved to Yulara, Ayers Rock Resort. This shocked many as I didn’t even like walking up the street by myself, and here I was, moving to the middle of Australia. I was well and truly out of my comfort zone that year but it was one of the best years of my life!
Back in Melbourne in my mid 20’s, I tried my hardest to be the best travel consultant that I could but was never noticed nor promoted. I was a hard worker; hardly had sick days, was respectful and loyal to the companies I worked for, yet received no recognition for my efforts.
Starting Cat Napping Suburban Retreat once again shocked people.
Shy Ebony running a business?
I remember telling my mum my idea and hearing her laugh. She gave me that same laugh the other month when I told her about my new (top secret) business idea. It just adds to my motivation.
So my big WHY is me.
I want the recognition that I am here.
I want to be known for what I have created.
