Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you may have to rethink your retirement if current trends continue.  While youth unemployment remains at an all time high, there has also been a considerable rise in homeless women entering retirement age.  Women who have faced unexpected divorce, family turmoil or who simply haven’t earned as much for as long as their male counterparts are struggling to find homes, as Australia’s housing crisis continues to price the young and old out of the market.  What is worse?  Many of these women are facing poverty because of the amount of time they spent out of the job market caring for children and the elderly.  Read the ABC report on the trend, and rethink your own retirement plans no matter how young, old, single or otherwise you may be.
