Q & A with Sally Arnold

What’s the story behind your business?

Sally set up Creating Encores as it combined all the passionate effective parts of her vast international career. Beginning as a world renown flautist, which then led to leading department store buyers nationally and internationally regarding the latest trends in homewares. Then Sally went to The Australian Ballet heading Corporate Development globally and working with Princess Diana on the royal gala season of the ballet in London. While at the ballet Sally saw the effect of creative high level business thinking to change executives stuck in their careers. Which led to Creating Encores original methodology which moves clients mindsets forward to vision future desires, instead of staying stuck.

What was your first job?

As a flautist in the original show of Jesus Christ Superstar in Sydney. I also was a recording artist backing many shows and movies. This job led to me staring in an ABC movie on the life of a famous Australian conductor Sir Bernard Heinze.

When you decided to start your own business, what was your big “why”?

To be able to help executive women not stay stuck and alone. To see that they have the potential to leverage their talent and move out of fear and self doubt towards new possibilities. ( this came from the life of a performer where change is around every day)

What have you had to give up?

My personal time. As I work on Creating Encores most days. And financially have put my own funds into the business which has meant that I have had to cut back on some of the luxury parts to my life. High quality hotels, fashion, wine and dining out. However as my business grows I am getting this fabulous life back again . Worth while.

Your proudest achievement to date?

My first job after leaving university, as principal flute in the band of Jesus Christ Superstar. FLute recordings for the ABC Marrying Tony who was my husband for many years and is now no longer on this earth. When working at The Australian Ballet spending months in London gaining sponsorship for the season. Working with the Ambassador, Trade Commisioners, Royalty to create an Royal Gala not to be forgotten. Having the courage to leave the ballet and high level business world with a regular salary to set up Creating Encores. And 15 years ago to see my first clients being able to move through challenges thanks to my expertise, psychotherapy and coaching methodology.

What are some of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on?

Flautist in Jesus Christ Superstar, this was the start of hit musicals Overseas buyer for department store The Royal Gala in London Writing my book, Creating Encores in 2013 To many to list, these above stand out.

What would you tell your younger self not to do?

To not listen to family and parents who kept questioning my desire to have a career as a flautist.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Get out of Christchurch New Zealand as a young musician and study in Australia. My life moved to another level, I then was able to start a career, short lived as it was in the music profession globally.

What’s next for you and your business?

Global speaking, Christchurch keynote speaker at Events for the future conference in August. AUstralian Embassy, New York, speaker September. Keynote speaker AIM October Leadership week. Online Creating Coaching program 2014/15 Another book, “UNSTICKING WOMEN”, stop complaining.
