Successful Entrepreneur Lisa Messenger Launches The Collective Magazine

Lisa Messenger, one of Australia’s most successful women, has in the past managed to keep under the radar – instead she directs the media spotlight on her high profile clients. With an influential list ranging from international corporations such as the Commonwealth Bank and Clinique, to charities including Kids Helpline and Miracle Babies Foundation, Messenger has cemented her place as one of the best in the business.

More Hermѐs than Hermes, Lisa Messenger has built a career on delivering important messages. She used cutting-edge innovation and creativity to develop a custom funding and distribution model for publishing, which led to the success of her communication company, The Messenger Group. Now, as the company launches their newest venture – a high-end magazine that has been described as the ‘Vanity Fair of business magazines’ – the spotlight looks ready to shine brightly on this charismatic courier.

Growing up in country NSW on a property near Coolah, Messenger spent her younger years riding motorbikes and horses through the bush and playing in the dirt. This uncomplicated ‘country girl’ attitude is something that Lisa credits with keeping herself grounded amongst the flurry of Sydney lifestyle.

“The simplicity of the country is the sort of thing I hold really dear to my heart and I’m always conscious of where I came from – there’s no airs and graces, what you see is what you get.”

Her down-to-earth outlook teamed with a canny flair for risk-taking is what led to the development of  the new publication. Messenger COLLECTIVE is the newest glossy magazine to hit the Australian market, focusing on lifestyle and entrepreneurial content. This is certainly a brave move, with the print industry in fast decline.

“The Messenger COLLECTIVE concept came after I got sick of the salacious gossip and media channels that weren’t imparting anything meaningful. Messenger COLLECTIVE will be inspirational, aspirational, relevant and intelligent, featuring the stories behind the stories and essential how-tos,” she explains.

Targeting the female demographic, Messenger COLLECTIVE was bound to be a challenge from the start with some heavy-weight competitors vying for the audience’s share. “I have taken on some seriously big players in a seriously sinking industry,” Messenger acknowledges. So that the magazine remains successful as journalism becomes more interactive, Messenger has ensured that content is fully synched for online and offline use, with more extensions to be rolled out over the next 12 months “because we are small in number, we have the ability to move and adapt quickly.”

Adding to her ever-growing list of job titles – Creative Director, Editor, Entrepreneur, Events Coordinator, Property Manager, Marketer and Publisher – Lisa Messenger is a bit of a chameleon. “No day is ever the same for me and I love weaving in and out of my numerous roles,” she says. However, Messenger does admit that “what I don’t enjoy and what I’m not good at is the day-to-day IT, legals and operational jobs. I am much more of a top level thinker.”

With this lethal combination of creative visionary and dare-devil, Lisa Messenger has become one of the most influential business women in Australia, something she credits her colleagues and employees with. “My team blow me away everyday with their loyalty and dedication.”

And if her past projects are anything to go by, Australian women are soon set to be swooning over the most exciting magazine to hit the market in decades.
