Q & A with Ramona Lever

What’s the story behind your business?

After many years as a counsellor and coach i knew it was time for a career change. I knew I still wanted to inspire, empower and educate. I also knew I needed to use my creative side in my everyday life. I was into photography when I was younger and decided to reconnect again. As soon as I started photographing people I was hooked! My business grew so fast and with my background I knew my ideal clients  needed.

What was your first job?

My first job was at 8! I sold popcorn in a shopping centre on school holidays. My first real job was at Target when I was 15. I was lucky to move my self up into the Sound department where I was pumping out the tunes!

When you decided to start your own business, what was your big “why”?

I was blessed to be pushed into Branding Headshots when I became ill. I knew I needed to add a creative element to my life. I was working for someone else and had lost my passion. I wanted to work my own hours, work close to home, help people in some way and jump out of bed in the morning! I needed the balance of loving life.

What have you had to give up?

I work long hours at home and at the studio. My mind is always buzzing with new ideas! I love what I do in the studio when I’m photographing and working with my clients, but there is so much behind the scenes work that others don’t see. I am usually working late at night and don’t go out too much. I try to take blocks of time out once a year to get the creative juices flowing again.

Your proudest achievement to date?

I should say my book! It’s almost ready to print and it’s always been a dream of mine to become an author, but truly – it’s the little things. I love it when I get emails from clients telling me  they can’t stop looking at themselves because they love their images. I know they’re seeing themselves as beautiful – their inner beauty is shining through and they can see it.

What are some of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on?

I still get a kick every time I see one of my images in a magazine or on the cover of a book. I love the conversations we have and learning about their passions.

What would you tell your younger self not to do?

Instead of telling my younger self not to do something, I would tell her to do everything!  To be proud and confident, to do whatever I want to do. To come from my heart with love and compassion. I would tell me to follow my bliss and travel and laugh lots because life is fun. To set goals and make them happen.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

I am so lucky to have met so many inspiring and influential people throughout my life. My favourite words of wisdom are… “This too shall pass”.

What’s next for you and your business?

I’m about to launch our Social Media packages! My book should be out soon and I have an online Personal Branding Course launching in May – so onwards and upwards for my business!
