Friday evenings are not traditionally known as networking nights and indeed Ita Buttrose is not your ordinary guest speaker. Surrounding guests with opulence and beauty, the pre-function room was set up with a Bodyography pamper and make up station, jewellery display from Canix Jewells featuring their stunning black diamonds, Shocolate magnificent chocolate display and Aaizel fashion designs, allowing guests to embrace a fashionable and glamorous way to network!
The noise of 200 chatty women and a few lucky men could be heard half way down the corridor of the magnificent marble hallway of The Clarendon Ballroom – Langham Hotel.
Delegates came from large corporations predominantly from HR, Councils, Lawyer firms, Finance, Banking, Real Estate and Accounting. Guests included Mercedes-Benz Melbourne, Marshall White Real Estate Executives, City of Yarra, Bayside Council, Qatar Airways, fashion designers and media personalities were amongst the many amazing guests.
As the room was alive with chatter, the fabulous MC Angela Pippos (award winning journalist and author) explained her connection to Europe – she has a Greek heritage and loves that its where she can buy size 4 shoes. Good excuse to travel to Europe I think.
Angela introduced guest presenter Ita Buttrose. Her presentation “A Passionate Life – Women in Business” had the audience completely captivated, mixing a strong business focus, humour, passion for work, balancing family life and being gracious and thankful for achievements. Ita believes that attitude has played a huge part in her life. She has a commanding presence, elegant, graceful yet still able to demonstrate her authority and points of view in a firm manner without compromising on her charm and femininity.
“Print advertising is having resurgence” she said. Many journalists will be happy to hear that digital and print is the way of the future. One of the mantras she lives by is a quote from Albert Einstein, “The thinking of today is not the thinking of tomorrow”. You need to be adaptable and evolve in whatever business interests you have. Often asked when she will retire, “Never if I can help it”, she proclaims.
Without doubt she is even more popular today than ever. Ita has pioneered the way for successful, beautiful and articulate women in business and continues to inspire us.
Mingling with these fascinating women was delightful. As we all chatted, once again we were indulged with delectable meals and delicate sweets. The ladies all left with a smile on their faces after mixing with other dynamic business people and goodie bag in tow!
Now to the next event – A FRENCH GARDEN AFFAIR!
