How To Love Your Current Job While Searching For Your Dream Job

Are you stuck in the awful limbo of searching for a job and still having to spend each day in the same environment you are trying to get out of?

Or do you just not enjoy what you do anymore and experience Monday-itis every day?

If we are all honest with ourselves, we don’t completely love our jobs each second of every day. There are times when we wish it would all go away, we would win the lottery and never have to work again. Dream on!

Unfortunately, this is a reality almost half of us face. According to a survey conducted by staffing agency Kelly Services, covering 120,000 respondents globally, 48% of employees are unhappy in their current jobs.

Forty eight per cent!

So if we are unhappy in our jobs, what can we do about it? Life is too short and too precious to waste time not being happy and satisfied in our careers, especially when it is such a big part of our lives. I can hear some of you already say ‘But you don’t understand. My workplace is horrible! There is no way I could make this any better’.

Take a look at the following three tips, implement them and tell me if you still feel the same.

1.    Change your focus

When you are unhappy in your job, most likely there’ll be a few things that stick out like thorns. You focus on those and all you see is thorns! When in reality, you are missing the flowers amongst the thorns. For instance, while your boss and colleagues might be from Planet Insane, the receptionist is really nice. There’s free tea and coffee. There’s a great park around the corner where you can go on your breaks. You can listen to music through earphones while you work. Basically, look for the gold amongst the dirt. Focus on the gold and you will see more while the horrible stuff will seem to diminish.

2.    Visualise your exit plan

I’m not saying day dream all day, every day. In moments where times are really tough, take a 10 minute break, grab a tea or coffee and visualise your inspiring future career. Go into all the small details like what you’re wearing, what expression is on your face, and what people are saying to you. By creating a compelling future, you not only get motivated to make it happen sooner but you are more able to accept your current reality if you know it’s only temporary.

3.    Take Action

Don’t wait for things to change. You need to make things change. If you want more of a challenge, speak up. If you want to connect more with colleagues, go and talk to them. If you want more money, put a case together and ask for a raise. This is a big step and you need to be prepared. Find more information on how to do this at www.littleaussiecheerleader.com. If you never ask or act, things will never change. It’s your life so you need to be happy with how you are living it.

So now it’s your turn. How are you going to bring glitter into your workplace? Start with one step or action you can take to turn your mundane job into an inspiring step towards your fulfilling career. Remember it’s all possible, everything you need is within you right now.
