Q & A with Danielle Price

What’s the story behind your business?

After 10+ years of working in design and advertising agencies, I knew it wasn’t the lifestyle I wanted when the time came to raise a family of my own. Deciding to set up my own graphic design business a year before falling pregnant was the best choice I ever made. Who knew at that time where it would lead! Working for myself I found the most successful client relationships formed when I worked with fellow business mums. Chatting over meetings, we understood each other, both personally and professionally, leading to amazing work results. I soon realised there was a lack of resources for us professional business mums, and taking inspiration from my own highly successful connections, She Will Shine was born! In the early days She Will Shine began as a small side project to my design business, but now three years later has taken on a life of its own and has been transformed into an active membership-based community for women focused on providing real support and connections to grow businesses. I’ve since said goodbye to graphic design and am now supporting fellow women in business full time. I am absolutely loving being on this She Will Shine journey.

What was your first job?

I was a cashier at a supermarket for around 6 years. It certainly built my confidence in speaking to strangers at the age of 15.

When you decided to start your own business, what was your big “why”?

I wanted professional mums who were running their own viable businesses to be rightly portrayed as professional business women. There’s a lot of us out there and if we are able to support each other, together we will be able to move mountains. Collaboration is so, so powerful for all involved, especially women. And the outcomes of which can achieve such greatness.

What have you had to give up?

To be honest, I don’t feel like I have had to give anything up. I love what I do. I am able to work it around my family and I’m surrounded my inspiring women all doing the same. Don’t get me wrong, it can be hard and there are difficult times where this roller-coaster goes up and down constantly, but in keeping with my vision I’m able to get back in my lane and continue to move forward.

Your proudest achievement to date?

In life, it would have to be my gorgeous family. I have two pre-schoolers who are my sunshine every single day. In business, it is every time I hear of a collaboration between my members as well as the wider community. Knowing that She Will Shine has been able to bring like-minded women together for greater things is amazing.

What would you tell your younger self not to do?

Not to forget my own well-being. It’s so easy as a young mum to put yourself last after your family. This year I made a huge commitment to myself and have since started regularly seeing a healer, meditating and just recently joined a gym.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

To stay true to my vision and not be afraid to say no to opportunities that do not align with that vision… or a big yes to ones that do (even if there is a HUGE fear factor!).

What’s next for you and your business?

I’ve just launched She Will Shine TV so am looking forward to further inspire and educate our wider audience on this brand new medium. I will be interviewing our own members as well as high profile business women. They will be sharing their expertise as well as their own journeys. It’s going to be fabulous! In the big vision, I’m looking forward to having my own space for members to have access to as well as be able to run my own events from. Currently all events are Melbourne based so I’m also looking to expand interstate. Watch out Australia, She Will Shine HQ is on the way!
